Germany’s USK and Australia’s classification board have both let news slip on an upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! video game. Titled Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of The Duelist, the unannounced Konami title has been rated for a release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’ll be the first current generation home console game in the franchise.

Due to the nature of Ratings Watch leaks, that’s all the info we have on the game, but be sure to check out PSNStores for future coverage.

Incoming rant:

With such limited information available, I can’t help but speculate. Given we’re finding out about this game through western ratings boards rather than a Japanese media source, as well as the platform selection of home consoles, I have to imagine this is another Other Ocean Yu-Gi-Oh! game. The Canadian development studio handled work on PS3’s Decade Duels and Millennium Duels releases, as well as the recent Duel Generation smartphone game. I’m not a fan of any of those titles. They’ve stripped the experience down to little more than a TCG simulator that encouraged DLC purchases by making card acquisition an exhausting grind.

I understand that Konami would be facing an uphill battle trying to sell a $50-$60 content rich virtual TCG in 2015, but as a fan it’s hard not to be disappointed. The games used to be so much more than what they are today. Maybe I’m wrong and Legacy of the Duelist will be different. If not, well, I’ll keep on dreaming about Tag Force 7 on Vita, or at least a localization of Tag Force Special …
