Review: Peggle

If you haven’t heard of Peggle you must be living in the Stone Age. This game seems to be on every platform imaginable and now it is finally found its way to the PS3. I for one couldn’t wait to play this.
This version of Peggle is the same as the others. In every stage you launch a pinball into an array of pegs, which are colored different colors. Your goal for each stage is to hit every orange colored pegs before you run out of balls. There are 50+ levels for you to master in Adventure mode and many others in the Challenge mode. Along with that the PS3 version also has some features which aren’t found in the other versions.
What I consider to be the best PS3 feature is Remote Play via PlayStation Portable. I love just laying down in my bed and relaxing while playing some Peggle before I sleep. The game also allows you to upload your replays to Youtube. So make sure you do, if you make that sickest of shots. While not unique to the PS3 version the online Peg Party is also a blast. Up to 4 players each play to clear the board the fastest. You can also view what every player is doing while you wait for the round to finish. That ability makes the game more intense, as you are seeing how close the other players are to finishing.
There were a few things that I wish were better. You will get a little slow down every once in a while when you shoot your ball. Hearing from others this is not present in other versions of the game. The pegs and backgrounds also look pixelated when it zooms in for the fever shot. This takes me out of the game since it is so jarring. Everything is nice and crisp until this happens. Another small nitpick I have is that the option to go to Trophies brings you to your PSN profile and not to the trophies for the game.
But even with those things the game is still as addicting as it was years ago on the PC. Being able to play this game online will definitely keep me coming back… as well as all the Challenge levels I need to master. Peggle is one of those games that anyone can like, no matter how old. So if you haven’t already, catch the Fever and play some Peggle.
