Mixed Bag Updates forma.8

The developers of Futuridium EP Deluxe, Mixed Bag Games, originally announced that their action adventure platformer forma.8 would hit PS4 and PS Vita in late 2014. Plans change, and a longer than expected dev cycle on Futuridium plus a shift in forma.8’s development meant the game is now scheduled for this year.

forma.8 has you pilot a small robot on an alien planet with a mission to recover a powerful energy source from huge underground caves to power the now energy depleted mothership. In this Metroidvania-inspired game, you have to explore a huge interconnected open world, solving puzzles, killing enemies and getting new power ups to progress.

One of Mixed Bag’s challenges was to refine what was already there. They’ve improved upon the game’s eerie art style, made smoother animations and improving all the particle and special effects.

forma.8 originally went into production in 2011 with the Unity engine. At the time their middleware solution was almost exclusively used for 3D games, which meant Mixed Bag had to wrestle with it to run a 2D platformer. Fast forward a few years later and now Unity fully supports 2D development. This has resulted in a full resolution 60fps experience on both PS4 and PS Vita.
