Image & Form (SteamWorld Dig) have announced their new game SteamWorld Heist which is set to release sometime next Spring. SteamWorld Heist isn’t a direct sequel to the previous game, but it does take place in the same universe.

“It’s set in the same world and the cowbots are still the heroes. But a lot has happened to SteamWorld since then, and we want to make a game that is radically different. Partly because we really wanted to make a turn-based strategy game, but also because it felt like a clever move. The obvious follow-up would’ve been Dig 2; we wanted to surprise instead.”

– CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson

SteamWorld Heist is set some time after the previous game as some sort of cataclysmic event has forced the population off the planet into steam-driven spaceships. With resources hard to come by the only way to remain in operation is by performing heists on enemy ships and bases. In SteamWorld Heist you’ll build a team of robots to explore the remains of the destroyed world, board enemy ships, scavenge for materials, and fight off enemies through turn-based combat.

No platforms have been announced at the time of this writing. SteamWorld Heist is set to release next Spring.
