Destiny of Spirits admins issue apology items for extended maintenance

If you’ve read Chris’s review, or have played the game yourself, you’d know that Sony’s free-to-play Destiny of Spirits is pretty much useless offline. So imagine the frustration players experienced when the Vita game’s servers were in an emergency maintenance for two days straight. The team working at SCE Japan Studio and Q? Entertainment lay the blame for the downtime on “extremely high access attempts“. To make amends with players, they’ll issue 50 free Destiny Orbs to all users registered prior to April 30th. The admins will also extend the Darkness Approaches raid boss event, as well as the Gravity Rush limited summons to May 14th. Those two were originally set to conclude on May 7th. These changes will start after May 1st’s weekly maintenance.
While it may sound petty, this experience has soured me on the game. There’s a Destiny of Spirits trophy that requires you to login for thirty consecutive days. I’ve been playing since the game launched in North America, so I was literally hours away from that milestone when the emergency maintenance hit. Now I have to start all over again, and I’m not sure I can convince myself to do that. While I’ve had a lot of fun playing the game, I’m well past the point where I feel like I’ve seen everything it has to offer. Maybe that promised Spirits Encyclopedia will convince me to collect them all … That said, I do have to commend the staff for being as upfront with the situation as they were. They constantly informed players of what was going on through their Twitter account and the game’s LiveArea activities feed.
