[UPDATE] Child of Light is a PS4/PS3 Cross-Buy game on PSN and retail in EU only
UPDATE – Ubisoft US PR has gotten back to me to say that Child of Light will be a PSN-only title in North America. Furthermore, it will NOT be a Cross-Buy title.
Editor’s Note: The cross-buy information was provided to us in an email from Ubisoft UK PR. This could be a regional decision.
Additionally, the PlayStation® 3 and PlayStation® 4 versions of the game, both in retail and digital, will benefit from the cross-buy option. Therefore, players buying Child of LightTM on PlayStation® 3 and PlayStation® 4 will be able to play the game on both platforms at no additional cost.
Maybe you’ve heard recently that the Ubisoft Montreal developed turn-based RPG set in the magical world of Lemuria called Child of Light is coming to retail in Europe. Dubbed Child of Light Deluxe Edition, this retail version will come bundled with a poster designed by Yoshitaka Amano (his tumblr here), a 24-page art book, an Igniculus key ring, a bonus quest, a new character, and a pack of in-game collectibles.
It has been confirmed that both the retail and PSN versions of Child of Light will be offered up as PS3/PS4 Cross-Buy game. That means, buy it once for either console, get it free for the other. That’s what we call “YOPO”, you only pay once. I shouldn’t need to explain that, but I just did. What would need explaining is exactly how that will go down if the retail version is purchased. It’s a little unclear which method Ubisoft might use; a code in the box, disc-activation a la DRM, or maybe there is no disc at all.
While this news pertains exclusively to the EU version of Child of Light at this time, I have reached out to the people at Ubisoft in North America to get the skinny on if this will be coming to retail and to confirm the Cross-Buy. I will update this post if and when a response is received. As of now, Child of Light is coming to PS3 and PS4 on April 30th for $14.99. Enjoy the embedded co-op trailer for the game above.
