Capcom’s PSN DRM Forces Internet Connectivity for Bionic Commando Rearmed 2

If it didn’t go down well the first time, why do it again?

Users on the popular gaming forum NeoGAF are reporting that today’s release of Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 on PSN contains the same DRM used by Final Fight Double Impact. The game will check that you are signed in to PSN before booting, and if you aren’t connected to the Internet? You’re left right out of luck, the game simply won’t start without an Internet connection. What makes this even more confusing is that Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 does not offer online co-op or a persistent online mode, like with Double Impact. Hopefully Capcom sees the madness of including such an obnoxious DRM in their releases, and patches it out. We’ll let you know if this happens, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

sounds like ubi’s drm. psn down? no bcr2 ;\. silly, really. just silly.

    Fine Capcom, no purchase. Morons.

Thanks for the heads-up. I’m going to skip this even though I bought the first one. Final Fight Double Impact gave me the same headache and I’m not going to spend money only to be blocked out of the game I purchased just because I’m not online. I also remembered that Final Fight Double Impact only had DRM for the PS3 version. Can you guys confirm if BCR2 has DRM on both consoles or only on the PS3 version again?

i loved BC:rearmed, but i will not support that bullshit. fuck you capcom.

Great, 15 bucks saved. As if I wasn’t on the fence already, this pretty much seals it.

I hope CAPCOM trolls forums, because I also am specifically not purchasing this game because of the extremely restrictive DRM. I’m just not into always being connected to the internet; I have a spotty internet connection and have other people using the bandwidth. I also find that a lot of my games run better if I’m not connected, so I’ll often disconnect, play, and reconnect to sync my trophies or purchase additional content.

That’s $15 of my money CAPCOM isn’t getting, and I’ve pretty much been convinced that I was going to buy this game for the last year … untilI heard about this.

If I hear about a path that fixes this I’ll not hesitate to buy it, but otherwise I’ll be looking for more socially-respectful titles; I’m not into fascism, digital or otherwise.

  • bullshit capcom should be a shame
