A 35 MB patch for Dead Nation is now live on PSN. We believe this fixes the max friend list freezing issues, but it could very well add in voice chat for online.
Going to contact Sony and see what is added in this.

Update: Doesn’t look like voice chat support is added. I just tested it out in a few games.
Update 2: Sony has confirmed via Twitter that this patch fixes the 100 Friends issue.

just now i tried for 15 minutes to play with a friend online
i couldn’t beat the game on normal so he was going to help me out since he has beaten it in undead, anyway he joined but we couldn’t play the stupid thing kept telling that we both had to be in same part of campagin
what kind of retarded feature is that?
we tried and tried but it was all a wastee of time
till we decided to start a new campaign, but guess what?! same thing showed up
