Puzzle Platformer Unravel Announced

During the EA E3 2015 press conference, Coldwood and EA announced Unravel, a physics-based puzzle platformer. Unravel introduces our main character, Yarny, who is a tiny protagonist made from a single thread of yarn. He embarks on a journey through the lush environments of Northern Scandinavia.

Martin Sahlin, Creative Director says the following:

The idea of Unravel was created from a very personal place. We didn’t start out by saying we’re going to make a puzzle platforming game. We started by thinking more about our lives, and the things we hold meaningful. We wanted the game to have a heart and the gameplay could always be designed to represent that. The tale of Unravel is about love, and the bonds between people. And the yarn is a representation of that. Yarny’s red thread is the tie that connects everything in the game, from the gameplay mechanics to the story, and the people in it.

Yarny’s thread will be used to swing across gaps or rappel down a tree. Sometimes the thread will be used in clever and unique ways to traverse forward. The story is told without words and Yarny is the thread that runs through the game.

Unravel will be available on PS4. No release date has been announced.

Can’t wait to analyze the crap out of it.

Like all living beings, Yarny will eventually unravel. It’s a metaphor for dying and/or death.
