Another World Coming to PS3, PSV and PS4 Next Week
The classic platforming game Another World, also known as Out of this World, is releasing June 25th on PS4. The game was originally released over 20 years ago, and was known for its innovations in cinematics, both real-time and in cutscenes.
With its move to the PS4, developer Digital Lounge, describes that they can stay true to the original game, but can also take advantage of newer hardware. The updated version includes a 256 color background, up to 720p resolutions, more checkpoints, and new sound effects. A remastered cinematic soundtrack is also included from previous versions.
In its transitions from gameplay to cutscene, the original game had long load times. With the retooling of the game, pre-loading and compression of cutscenes were implemented to ensure smooth and fast transitions from one screen to the next.
Now that the game is being rendered at a higher resolution, some of the backgrounds needed to be edited for crisper details. The animations were also reworked due to the old ones looking “unpolished in full HD.”
The post on the US PlayStation Blog mentions that the game will release on PS4, but Digital Lounge mentions that the game will have cross-buy, cross-save and cross-platform trophies. However, the EU PlayStation Blog states that the game will be coming to PS4, PS3 and Vita.
From this, in the US, I would expect the PS4 version to release next week, and the PS3 and Vita versions to follow not long after.
UPDATE: The European PlayStation Blog post has since been updated to state that all versions of the game will launch next week.
