Starlight Inception prepares to lift off on Vita later this month
Starlight Inception was one of the first Kickstarters I can remember that included Vita as part of the main campaign. It was kind of a struggle to get the game to its $150k funding goal, but fans eventually pushed through on the last day. Recently, Escape Hatch Entertainment shared with their Kickstarter backers the release date of the full version of the game on PC, and PS Vita. Players can start taking to space on April 22nd in North America, and the 23rd in Europe.
Starlight Inception is inspired by space fighting games like Wing Commander, X-Wing and Freespace 2. The game takes place in the fourth World War fought against planets. Players take on the role of a young pilot in this 1st person (both with cockpit and without) / 3rd person strategic and tactical space combat experience. The game has two main game modes; the mission mode, and a tower defense mode. Missions see players tackle a variety of challenges including straight shoot-’em ups, rescue missions, and salvage missions while progressing through a story. All of the missions contain elements of exploration, combat and in some cases, stealth and tagging the enemy for larger assaults. The second game mode is a strategic defense of your mothership, where you deploy turrets and engage in ship to ship combat to defend against incoming marauders. This mode is aimed at players who just want to get in a cockpit and begin engaging the enemy. Starlight Inception even includes a multiplayer component featured tried and tested modes like deathmatch, capture the flag, defend the mothership, etc.
Escape Hatch didn’t share a price, but the Steam Early Access version is priced at $19.99, so I’d expect the Vita version to cost a similar amount. The PS3 version of Starlight Inception is set for a launch sometime in the second quarter of this year.
