Beat Hazard Ultra coming to PSN

It’s quite tricky to define Beat Hazard Ultra without taking it first at face value. That is to say, it’s a twin stick shooter. Now that’s out of the way, the real meat of Beat Hazard Ultra, first released on the PC and Xbox Live Indie Games channel in a slightly diminished form, is that your very own music will be the very thing powering the game, with stages changing in intensity and design based on your own tunes. To help illustrate this point, here’s a playthrough of the typical song you’ll find used in games where you can use your own music, Dragonforce’s “Through the fire and the flames”.

Although it’s from the older version of the game, you can get a pretty good idea here of what the music is doing to the game, making quite the laser light show. Of course, it wouldn’t be a re-release without some expanded features, so the PSN version is set to include online co-op and head to head multiplayer, as well as a whole host of new power-ups, weapons, enemies and game modes. Beat Hazard Ultra will be available for PSN in the near future, so keep a keen eye out. I intend to attempt the full version of The Four Seasons in it, just to see what happens.
