No Store Today Says Sony – PSN Will Be Down For Maintenance

It seems that you can’t even trust leaked internal memos as credible sources of information anymore. The reports stating that the PSN Store would be back up today are not true according to a new entry published on the PlayStation Blog. Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein wrote the entry which also is reporting that PSN will be down for maintenance from 8 AM to 5 PM PDT today. According to Rubenstein “During this time, registration and Account Management will be inaccessible, including the password reset process. While some users may experience difficulty signing in to PSN, the majority of consumers will be able to play online as well as sign in to external sites that require PSN authentication (like this one).” At least the upside to this is that it won’t affect your online gaming on your PS3.
So when will the store be back? Rubenstein said “For those asking about the PlayStation Store, we’re still targeting restoration of all services by the end of this month. Contrary to reports, the Store will not be publishing today.”
And of course, what PlayStation related announcement of late would be complete without the usual company sign off:
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”
All facetiousness aside though, Seybold and Rubenstein and the rest of the PR guys at Sony have been doing a tremendous job in the wake of a security disaster. And though were all understandably pretty bummed that the store is down, here’s hoping that nothing stops them from being able to put it up in time to make their end of month deadline.
