Most Anticipated in 2011 – About A Blob

Do you own a PS3? Do you frequently check the PlayStation Network Store for hot new releases? How about for Call of Duty map packs? Is it the year 2011? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you need to know about some of the upcoming PSN titles that will blow your mind out in a car (with exxxtreme enjoyment). We, the editors at PSNStores.com, know about said titles. Here’s one of them:

Tales From Space: About a Blob

Toronto seems to be a hotbed for PSN development. You have Capybara, makers of Critter Crunch and the soon to be released Clash of Heroes HD, Jonathan Mak, creator of Everyday Shooter, and there is Drinkbox Studios, the developers of the game this post is about.  Eric and I had a chance to meet up with Drinkbox this past September at PAX. When we came into the meeting I didn’t really know anything about About A Blob, but I did come out a fan.

The first thing you notice from the screens and video is the game’s art style. It reminds me of a Saturday morning cartoon. The story is straight out of one as well. You are a blob that crash lands onto Earth, but not any ordinary blob. Being a blob from space you need some sort of special power, its being the ability to absorb and expel objects. This in turn is how you will solve a majority of the puzzles. In later levels there is also magnetism which must be used as well. We were teased about the possibly of more powers but they weren’t willing to share just then 🙁

You don’t have to tackle this alone though as there is co-op gameplay. At PAX Eric and I had some fun trying to eat as much as we could, while leaving nothing left each other. While the entire game is doable in single player, the puzzles were a lot more fun to do in co-op. I mean who doesn’t like to play with a friend. There were also hidden items that are scattered about the levels for you trophy hunters.

Drinkbox was lucky enough to take part in Sony’s Pub Fund program. So you can expect About A Blob to be a can’t miss PSN exclusive when it launches soon.
