They’ve been a long time coming, but at long last NEOGEO games have been confirmed as coming to the US Store, on both the PS3 and the PSP. Starting December 21st, the first 10 games to be made available on the service are as follows;
- FATAL FURY
- ALPHA MISSION II
- THE KING OF FIGHTERS ’94
- SAMURAI SHODOWN
- BASEBALL STARS PROFESSIONAL
- MAGICIAN LORD
- METAL SLUG
- LEAGUE BOWLING
- SUPER SIDEKICKS
- ART OF FIGHTING
However, these aren’t just straight ports of the classic titles. Each of these games are set to recieve a variety of upgrades, such as online versus and co-op on the PS3, and ad-hoc variants of the same modes on the PSP, along with a set of upgrades deemed by the press release as “a variety of features both hardcore fans and a new generation of NEOGEO gamers will be sure to appreciate”, which could perhaps mean sprite filtering options, a-la those found in Marvel vs Capcom 2, which would indeed be a welcome addition.
These classic games are due to be priced at a suggested price of $8.99 per title, whilst each PSP version will cost $6.99 per title, which seems to me like a fair price for such classics. It would bear mentioning here that the PSP versions of these titles are slated to arrive in “January”, with the exceptions of Fatal Fury and Metal Slug, which will be available on both PSP and PS3 on the self same day. SNK also mentions in their press release that the library of NEOGEO games will be “continuously growing”, meaning that if your favourite title isn’t on the list, it may well be in the pipeline. So who knows, perhaps Pulstar is on the way after all!
where noted, in January for the PSP:
- FATAL FURY (PSP 12/21)
- ALPHA MISSION II
- THE KING OF FIGHTERS ’94
- SAMURAI SHODOWN
- BASEBALL STARS PROFESSIONAL
- MAGICIAN LORD
- METAL SLUG (PSP 12/21)
- LEAGUE BOWLING
- SUPER SIDEKICKS
- ART OF FIGHTING
